Are the television shows in the 1950's were consisted of "Hollywood" living ?

I read in a website and book that most of the shows and lifestyles that were portrayed in the 1950's, such as Leave it to Beaver and Father Knows Best, were phony and did not show the reality of living during the period.

I used to watch Leave it to Beaver. Some of the situations he'd get into were things kids might do. The best episode was when Beaver cut his own hair and tried to hide it from his parents. Ward would yell and lose his temper sometimes at some of the things the boys did.June stayed home and looked after the family. The boys had their friends who "helped" the boys in and out of trouble. While maybe not completely reality many parents could relate to the home life and "kid " problems. Good clean fun and laughs.

I didn't think they were that phony. I can remember lots of stuff from Leave it to Beaver. Even the clothes they wear.

Maybe not Father Knows Best.
